Steps to Run a Storage Drive Disk Diagnostic Scan

The NEXUS and UltraNEXUS can scan their storage for errors by checking the internal compact flash storage and any USB external hard drives connected to it during the scan.

If there are no USB hard drives connected, or they are powered off at the time of the scan, only the internal compact flash will be scanned. This should take approximately five minutes.

New logs will be created during the scan. You will want to check the logs for any errors and if the errors were fixed.

If errors were found and you're not sure if they were fixed, you can rerun the scan and check the newly created logs. If the new logs still show errors, then they were not able to be fixed.

If there are several errors on the internal compact flash, perform a firmware update on the NEXUS or UltraNEXUS. This should replace any lost system files.

There are two ways to run the scan:

To Run a Disk Diagnostic scan from the WebNEXUS interface.

  1. In WinLGX, go to the Tools menu and select Web Interface.
  2. In WebNEXUS, go to the System page and select the Maintenance tab. Click on the Disk Diagnostic button. This will scan the internal NEXUS memory, and the external hard drive(s) attached.

NOTE:

    • The scan may take 15 to 20 minutes (or longer depending on the size of your storage).
    • You will not be able to connect to the NEXUS/UltraNEXUS and will not be able to run programming during the scan.
    • The front display of the NEXUS/UltraNEXUS will show it running through the files during the scan.
    • When the date and time appear on the front panel, the scan is done.

When the scan is done, a log file of the scan will be created, named (Scan_C.log), and a scan log for the external hard drives named (scan_{hardDriveName}). The files can be found on the WebNEXUS LOGS page.

To Run the Disk Diagnostic from the front panel:

  1. Shut down the unit (hold the left and right arrow buttons for two seconds).
  2. Restart (hold the left and right arrow buttons for two seconds) and hold the Down arrow key (press the down arrow key as soon as the display changes from off) until the Disk Diagnostic menu comes up on the display.
  3. Now press the right arrow to scan all external drives and internal memory.
  4. A log file will be created, and then the unit will reboot on its own.

NOTE:

    • This will take 15 to 20 minutes (or longer, depending on the size of your storage).
    • You will not be able to connect to the NEXUS.
    • The NEXUS/UltraNEXUS will not run your schedule, but it will pass through an input if you have something going to one of the inputs on the back of the NEXUS.
When the scan is done a log file of the scan will be created, named (Scan_C.log), and a scan log for the external hard drives named (scan_{hardDriveName}). The files can be found in the WinLGX - File/Get logs -  ALL tab.
