How to Retrieve the Events Logs

How to retrieve and search the events log in a NEXUS or UltraNEXUS server to troubleshoot issues you may be experiencing.

  1. In the WinLGX software, go to the File menu and select Get Log.
  2. In the window that opens, select the System tab at the top.
    1. Here you will see an EVENTS.LOG and an OLDEVNTS.LOG file listed.
    2. The EVENTS.LOG will have the most recent events. The "OLDEVNTS.LOG" log file will have older events.
    3. The logging system will not go back indefinitely. There will only ever be two event log files. Once the current "EVENTS.LOG" file reaches its size limit, it will be renamed "OLDEVNTS.LOG," overwriting the old file, and a new "EVENTS.LOG" file will be created.
  3. Then select the desired log file.
  4. Under Filter Presets, Click the "Raw data (no filter)" button.
  5. Click "OK," and a save window will open. You can save it in the default location on your PC or choose your desired location.
  6. The file will open automatically using Notepad.

You can search the log using Notepad's search function (CTRL+F).

The logs have severity codes that designate success or failure with a process. The severity codes range from 0 to 2, with 0 being no issue, 1 representing a problem, and 2 relating to hardware issues such as a reboot. Here is a list of suggested words to search for when looking for issues: "sev:1", "sev:2" You can also search by a video file's name.
