No Background Audio Under Slideshow from an UltraNEXUS-HD Series Server

This article applies to UltraNEXUS-HD, UltraNEXUS-HD X2, X5, Flex, Cast, and Blade servers.

Check Slideshow Audio Setup

Make sure it's set up in the Virtual Channel correctly

Analog Audio Input as Audio Source

If the source for the audio under the slides is from the analog audio input of the UltraNEXUS-HD, check the following:

Check the audio terminal block connections

Run a Test Recording

If the audio terminal block wiring is correct, you can run a test record (if capable) by setting the record preset audio source to analog. (UltraNEXUS Cast does not have record capability)

  1. To set the record preset to record analog audio:
    1. Go to the System Configuration folder in the upper right corner.
    2. In the Resource View window, select the Internal Video Recorder icon.
    3. In the Properties View window, for Preset 1 – "Good," set the Record Audio Source field to "Analog."
      1. Once your testing is complete, be sure to return to the original settings, i.e., Embedded 1-2

    4. Then send the schedule to the UltraNEXUS-HD to apply the changes.
  2. Use the WinLGX Control Panel and record using the "Good" preset.
  3. After stopping the recording, play the recorded file from the Storage Manager window (Tools/Storage Manager).
  4. Right-click the file and choose View, to open the file in the preview player.
    1. Make sure the audio is turned up by using the slider on the right side of the preview player.
    2. Ensure the PC has speakers or headphones and the PC sound is turned up and not muted.

If the recording does not have sound, you'll need to check your analog audio connections and/or the audio source and cabling for issues.

Video File as Audio Source

If a video file played by the UltraNEXUS-HD is the source of audio for the slides, check the following:

Make Sure the File Plays

Check the Video Info page

  1. From WinLGX, go to the Tools menu and select Web interface
  2. Log in using the same user name and password as for WinLGX.
  3. Go to the Video Info page.
  4. Select the file to see if it is blocked from playing.

If the file is blocked from playing, you'll need to re-render or convert the file to correct the issues listed in red on the Video Info page.

Check the Events Log

Check the UltraNEXUS-HD Events log to see when the file was supposed to play and if it did.

  • The log will have a playback report entry that lists the file name and how long it played for:
    • See an example below showing a file called "Background_July2020.mp4" played for 25 minutes and 56 seconds on June 24, ending at 9:56:08 PM (21:56:08):
Jun 24 21:56:08 dm8168 local3.info mpeg_mon: Sev:0 MPEG Playback  1,00:25:56,storage1:Background_July2020.mp4

Make Sure the File has Audio

Play in preview monitor on a PC with speakers

  1. Play the file from the Storage Manager window (Tools/Storage Manager).
  2. Right-click the file and choose View, to open the file in the preview player.
  3. Make sure the audio is turned up using the preview player's slider on the right side.
  4. Ensure the PC has speakers or headphones and the PC sound is turned up and not muted.

If the file does not have sound, you'll need to replace it with a file that does.
