WinLGX Software Won't Open

Here are some suggestions to try if WinLGX won’t open. If only the opening splash screen appears, errors, or closes and cannot proceed to the Site Manager log-in window.

The WinLGX software uses a file called location.dat to store the location and IP addresses of the units it connects to.

The location.dat file is located at C:\Users\Public\Documents\LEIGHTRONIX\WinLGX on a Windows 10 PC

In most cases, there are two problems that can arise with the location.dat file:

  1. It has become corrupted by the computer.
  2. Access to that file has been restricted by the computer's permissions.

Corrupted Location File

The location.dat can become corrupted if the computer's C drive or primary storage is full leaving no space to edit or update the location.dat file. The file can be corrupted in other ways as well.

Follow these steps to clear out the corrupt file, and have WinLGX create a new location.dat file:

  1. Confirm there is free space on the computer's C drive.
  2. Make sure WinLGX is closed.
  3. Open a File Explorer window (Windows key + E) and navigate to the WinLGX folder on the Windows PC (C:\Users\Public\Documents\LEIGHTRONIX\WinLGX).
  4. Within the WinLGX folder should be the location.dat file.
  5. Rename the location.dat file (just add an "x" to the name) and open WinLGX 7.
  6. The WinLGX software will create a new location.dat file and open it successfully.
  7. You'll need to re-add the IP address of the NEXUS (or UltraNEXUS, UltraNEXUS-HD, or whichever video server you use with the WinLGX software) back into the WinLGX Site Manager login window by using the ADD button in the lower-left corner.

Restricted Computer Permissions

If you cannot rename the file because of the computer's permissions, you will need to contact your IT department or the person who manages your computers to grant you and the WinLGX software permission to read and write in the WinLGX folder.
