NEXUS or UltraNEXUS Won't Boot

If the front display of the NEXUS or UltraNEXUS shows “Now booting…” and won’t get past that message, here are some things to try.

Storage Hard Drive Issues

If the hard drive unit(s) connected to the NEXUS have issues, they can cause the NEXUS to get stuck in the boot process.

Power the NEXUS down:

  1. Press and hold the left and right arrow keys on the front of the NEXUS for two seconds
  2. Disconnect any hard drives from the NEXUS (pull all USB cables out of the back of the NEXUS so that all four of the USB ports are empty)
  3. Restart the NEXUS (press and hold the left and right arrow keys on the front of the NEXUS for two seconds) to see if it will restart without the hard drives.

If the NEXUS boots without the hard drives, then the hard drives likely need maintenance.

RAM failure

Does the NEXUS beep when you try to restart it? If so, is there a 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep pattern to the beeps?

This beep pattern is an indicator that the RAM module inside the NEXUS is failing. Be aware that some NEXUS and UltraNEXUS versions won't have the beep pattern but could still suffer from failed RAM.

Please complete a support ticket at https://www.leightronix.com/support to initiate contact with a LEIGHTRONIX support representative to discuss your repair options. Please understand, given the age of the NEXUS/UltraNEXUS hardware, replacement RAM may not be available.

Still Won't Boot

If the NEXUS still doesn't boot, it could be the motherboard, internal compact flash, or some other internal component is failing. The unit most likely needs to be repaired or replaced.
