"VLC is not installed" Error in WinLGX

Suppose you use the Preview Monitor in WinLGX and get a message stating the VLC player is not installed. It may be that WinLGX has the wrong path or no path to VLC on your PC, or maybe VLC is not installed on your PC.

Check the path to the VLC player.

  1. In WinLGX, go to the Tools menu and select Preferences.
  2. Select the Preview Monitor tab at the top of the window.
  3. Look at the VLC Application Folder path listed at the bottom of that window. It should display "C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC" exactly. This is the path to the 32bit version of VLC.

NOTE:

  • If it displays "C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC," that is the path to the 64-bit version of  VLC. Notice the absence of "(x86)".
  • You can have both the 64-bit and the 32-bit version of the VLC player installed on your PC, but WinLGX can only work with the 32-bit version.

Correcting the VLC Path:

If the "C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC" path isn't displayed, follow the steps below to set it to that path. If it has the correct path, follow the same steps below as if it didn't (it may have cached information).
  1. Click the browse button (the three-dot) button to the right of the path field. This will open a navigation window.
  2. Navigate to the location where the 32-bit VLC is located here: "C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC."
  3. Select the VLC folder and click OK.
  4. Then click OK in the Preferences window.
  5. Now exit out of WinLGX and then reopen WinLGX.

Missing 32-bit VLC

If there is no 32-bit version of VLC installed on the PC, you can find the 32-bit version of the VLC installer in the WinLGX 7 folder, located on your PC  here: "C:\Program Files (x86)\WinLGX 7".

Make sure WinLGX is closed, then run the VLC.exe file to install the 32 bit VLC.

Now you can open WinLGX and reset the VLC Application Folder path in the Preference window as covered above.
